SYMBOLISM OF ORISIRISI
THE WORD ORISIRISI IS A REPRESENTATION OF MY AFRICAN HERITAGE
My grandmother's ancestors were from the Yoruba Tribe, which originated from Nigeria in Africa. They were part of the Slave Trade who were shipped to Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies. At an early age my parents had immigrated to America and left me in the care of my grandparents.
A lot of who I am today is a reflection of how my grandmother nurtured and raised me. She was kind, loving, and caring. She had a great sense of humor and was always willing to give a helping hand to the less fortunate. She was not wealthy in any sense of the word, but her spirituality always led her to believe in the old adage “don’t matter how bad your situation is, there is always someone else worse off than you.”
These are some of the things she taught me as a young man growing up and as an adult, I have molded my life from the clay of her teachings.
My grandmother was the most spiritual person I ever knew and as they say, “she was really down to Earth.” Now that she is no longer with us, I wanted to honor her by incorporating part of her culture into our family business.
ORISIRISI MEANING
In the Yoruba language the word “Orisirisi” (o-ree-she-ree-she) means variety, which identifies with our products.
Our pepper sauce products are based on a variety of flavors and natural spices. Just like the old saying goes, “variety is the spice of life,” hence the naming of our brand ‘Orisirisi Spice of Life’.
